BONE CHINA The whitest glow is achieved with bone china. It is a very dense and strong material. Bone china contains bone ash (about 45%), sustainably sourced as a by-product of the UK meat industry. This makes bone china the most sustainable choice. Multiplicity bone china lights are beautifully hand polished to a tactile silky-smooth matte finish rather than glazed.
The Bone China I use contains:
Bone Ash (Staffordshire, England)
Kaolinite China Clay (Cornwall, England)
Ball Clay (Devon, England)
Feldspar (Sweden)
PARIAN This is a less well known clay developed in the 1850s for casting figurines to look a like marble. It has a subtle self-glazing surface that feels almost waxy. It has high translucent qualities in a warm, cream coloured tone (slightly cooler in tone to the glacier porcelain.)
The Parian I use contains:
Halloysite China Clay (New Zealand)
Feldspar (Germany)
Kaolinite China Clay (Cornwall, England)
PORCELAIN Glacier porcelain is used in my studio which is one of the most translucent porcelains available, made with the purest kaolins from New Zealand. The translucency gives a beautifully warm glow and would be my choice for bedside pendant shades. Multiplicity porcelain lights are beautifully hand polished to a tactile silky-smooth matte finish rather than glazed. Glazing can be an option for bespoke orders.
